Frequently asked questions

Why should I donate to Utrecht University?

In conducting scientific research and providing academic training to young people the university has an important role to play in society. Government funding is an important source of income, but it certainly isn't the only one. Contributions from individuals and businesses are a valuable addition to revenue. Individuals and businesses will often fund projects they feel connected to, or consider relevant to society.

What is the role of the Utrecht University Fund?

The Utrecht University Fund aims to support the education provided by and the research conducted at Utrecht University. To this end it seeks to generate revenue, 100% of which is forwarded to its intended educational or research project.

What are the fiscal advantages of my donation?

The Utrecht University Fund is acknowledged as a so-called Public Benefit Organisation (PBO/ANBI). The following fiscal benefits apply to such an entity:

  • A PBO does not pay Dutch inheritance tax or gift tax on inheritances or gifts that the institution allocates to the general good.
  • A PBO does not pay Dutch gift tax on gifts that the institution makes for the general good. That means that 100% of donations made to the Utrecht University Fund are forwarded to its intended recipient cause or project.
  • Natural and legal persons making donations to a PBO may, where allowed, deduct their gifts from their Dutch income tax or corporate income tax.

For more information on tax-related issues, please call the Tax Information Line on 0800-0543 or visit www.belastingdienst.nl.
