Giving Back, Growing Forward | UCU Fund

Transform futures - donate to the UCU Fund today.

Since its founding, University College Utrecht has inspired trailblazers, pacesetters, and solution seekers  - students from diverse backgrounds drawn to our distinctive educational programme and vibrant community.

We believe that every student with the talent and desire to study at UCU should have access to financial aid, regardless of their family's financial circumstances. Therefore, as part of our efforts to expand our financial aid programme and assist more deserving students, the UCU Fund has set an ambitious goal of raising at least €75.000 during this campaign to:

  • provide financial support for three years of tuition fees for one non-EEA student and one EEA student;
  • assist students who have displayed perseverance and leadership amidst adversity by funding the Rosemary Orr Scholarship;
  • raise funds that will enable students to participate in transformative experiences such as the UCU Global Mental Health Project in Jamaica and the UCU East Africa Programme.

In honour of UCU's 25th anniversary, we also aim to have at least 250 participants contribute in 2023 to help us toward our goal.

This campaign is the first of its kind for UCU, but worth the challenge.Your contribution to the UCU Fund is a catalyst for change and opportunity. Join us in making a profound impact on the lives of students who might otherwise miss out on the transformative educational experience that UCU offers.

University College Utrecht is one of the few university colleges in the Netherlands with a need-based financial aid programme. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for talented students from all backgrounds. Each academic year, we provide partial scholarships to support up to 50 students in the student body, but the demand for financial assistance has notably risen.

Our research indicates that, on average, around €1.2 million in financial aid is required by 100 admitted incoming students annually. However, our current resources limit us to partially supporting only 14 of them. For the remaining admitted students who do not receive aid, particularly those from outside the EEA, the primary reason for not attending UCU is the inability to cover financial costs.

To address this issue and enable students to participate in the many opportunities provided at UCU, like the Global Health Project and East Africa Programme, we aim to expand the financial aid programme. Your contribution to the UCU Fund will help us increase the number of students we can assist.

Together we grow.

Our campaign has two essential goals: to increase the funds available for deserving students' scholarships and to foster philanthropic participation among the UCU community and friends of the College.

Why €75.000?

Increase available funds in the UCU Fund by €60.000 to support students in financial need

With this amount, we can cover three years of tuition fees for both one non-EEA student and one EEA student. Your contribution will directly support the education of these promising students, giving them a chance to thrive at University College Utrecht. The current tuition fee for EEA students is €4.802, while non-EEA students pay €14.665.

Raise €7.500 for the Rosemary Orr Scholarship to support students who have demonstrated perseverance and leadership amidst adversity

This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Rosemary Orr, a passionate advocate of Liberal Arts and Sciences education and a mentor to many former UCU students. Your support will help students who have demonstrated perseverance and leadership amid adversity, enabling them to continue their academic journey with confidence.

Help raise €7.500 to make the UCU Global Mental Health Project in Jamaica and UCU East Africa Programme accessible for all students

These initiatives provide invaluable opportunities for UCU students to study mental health in a global context and inspire future global leaders. Your contribution will make these transformative experiences accessible to all students.

25 Years, 250 Donors

As part of UCU's 25th anniversary celebrations, the campaign is challenging the UCU community to reach a participation goal of 250 donors this year. Together, we can make a significant impact in increasing scholarship support for deserving students. Remember, any amount makes a difference. Thank you for being a part of this meaningful journey.
