Contribute to rid our oceans of plastic (phase 2)
The Utrecht research into how plastic waste moves through the oceans, which is already being implemented around the Galapagos Islands, is entering the next phase. We want to make more ecosystems plastic-free. To prevent washed-up plastic waste from flowing back into the sea, where it breaks down into smaller pieces, it is important to quickly remove the waste on land. A computer tool can predict where and when plastic will wash up. The development of this "plastic predictor" requires "drifters": small, reusable floating buoys with built-in GPS that provide insight into the ocean currents. Donate a drifter!
